As someone that has a 15 year old German Shepherd who’s in pretty good condition, all things considered, I’ve done a lot of research on things to help keep her here and happy. That said, I like the idea behind this senior-dog supplement because it covers several areas at once: joints, gut health, antioxidants, brain/mood support and healthy aging. The formula includes 200 mg NMN, 125 mg glucosamine, 100 mg chondroitin, 75 mg algae oil, 3 billion CFU Lactobacillus acidophilus, 4 billion heat-treated postbiotics, vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamins A and D3, zinc and blueberry extract.

The NMN is probably the most interesting ingredient for the longevity claim. NMN is a precursor to NAD+, which is involved in cellular energy metabolism, and there is some early research in dogs, but I wouldn’t consider 200 mg a proven “longevity” dose. The canine research is still pretty limited, so I think the claim is more promising than established.

For joints, glucosamine and chondroitin are reasonable ingredients, but these amounts are quite modest. At 125 mg and 100 mg per two chews, respectively, I wouldn’t expect this to provide a strong joint-support effect for a larger senior dog. The 75 mg of algae oil also sounds good on paper, but the important thing with joint support is the actual EPA/DHA content, which isn’t provided here. Clinical studies showing meaningful omega-3 effects in dogs have used substantially higher EPA+DHA amounts.

The 3 billion CFU probiotic is a respectable amount, although the benefit depends heavily on the specific strain. The postbiotic blend is interesting too, and I like seeing something targeted toward mental wellbeing, but I wouldn’t expect dramatic behavioural changes from it. The antioxidant ingredients — vitamin E, beta-carotene and blueberry extract — make sense as general nutritional support, but the amounts aren’t particularly impressive.

Overall, I like the breadth of the formula, and I think it’s a decent senior-dog supplement. My biggest issue is that some of the headline ingredients aren’t present at amounts I’d consider especially strong, particularly the glucosamine, chondroitin and algae oil. Four stars because the ingredients are generally good, but I’d like to see stronger, more transparent dosing before calling this a truly comprehensive senior-dog formula.

It’s hard watching my dog, Beans, get older, so I was happy to find a Canadian brand offering supplements intended to support senior dogs’ joints and overall health.

Beans loves these and happily lines up for her two chews every morning, which is the recommended amount for her weight. No convincing or hiding them in food required!

I can’t speak to the longevity claims or say they’ll add years to her life. What I can say is that she enjoys them, and since starting them, her bowel movements seem more frequent but still healthy and easy for her to pass.

I couldn't exactly pretend to eat a dog chew this time, so I had to get creative. I chopped the chew up with a knife, turned it into a powder, and mixed it into his food. It worked like a charm! I was actually surprised that he wouldn't eat the chews because they don't have that strong smell that some dog supplements have. They actually smell quite pleasant. Of course, I still wasn't going to taste them myself!
He has been taking them this way for about two weeks now, and I have noticed that he seems much more playful. He has started bringing all his stuffed toys to me to play tug-of-war again, something he had slowed down on before. Now he wants to play two or three times a day and seems to have so much energy.

We know this helps humans so I can see that this product is aware it can benefit your fur baby in the correct dosage. Also my guy is a small toy chow & the fact these chews are easy for him to chew because they are soft in texture makes giving it to him more a treat than an effort.
